Mahoning County Career & Technical CenterChoosing a career is one of the most important decisions of your life. When you graduate from high school, you may want to start your career immediately or go to college. If you've prepared at Mahoning County CTC, you'll have a head start either way.

Choffin

Choffin Career & Technical Center works in agreement with Youngstown State University to offere college credit to students at Choffin that are enrolled in a tech prep course. The credit is not guarenteed. Students have to earn it, and in some cases students will have to test out of courses to receive credit.

More American IT Jobs Than Ever, Study Shows

If the declining enrollments in college computer-science programs are any indication, students are not especially confident in the IT job market. But they need not fret, according to Moshe Y. Vardi, a professor of computational engineering in Rice University's Computer and Information Technology Institute.

TOP 10 SKILLS FOR THE FUTURE

You may have aced your metaphysics finals, but can you work in a team? Solve complex problems? Communicate clearly in print and in person?

These are skills that employers are increasingly demanding, according to Syracuse University public-affairs professor Bill Coplin. The top 10 skills:

  • Work ethic, including self-motivation and time management.
  • Physical skills, e.g., maintaining one's health and good appearance.
  • Verbal (oral) communication, including one-on-one and in a group.
  • Written communication, including editing and proofing one's work.
  • Working directly with people, relationship building, and team work.
  • Influencing people, including effective salesmanship and leadership.
  • Gathering information through various media and keeping it organized.
  • Using quantitative tools, e.g.; statistics, graphs, or spreadsheets.
  • Asking and answering the right questions, evaluating information, and applying knowledge.
  • Solving problems, including identifying problems, developing possible solutions, an launching solutions.

ACM Women in Computing

ACM-W is the ACM Committee on Women in Computing. It celebrates, informs, and supports women in computing, and works with the ACM-W community of computer scientists, educators, employers, and policy makers to improve working and learning environments for women.

Association for Women in Computing

The Association for Women in Computing is a non-profit professional organization for junior and senior high school students.

CWIT

The Center for Women and Information Technology, established at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) in July 1998, is dedicated to providing global leadership in achieving women's full participation in all aspects of information technology.

CRA-W

Engineer Girl
